Diesel Mechanic Technology, Certificate

The Diesel Mechanic Technology Program equips students with the skills needed to maintain and repair various industrial diesel equipment, such as agricultural tractors, commercial trucks, and construction equipment. The curriculum covers inspection, repair, and maintenance of engines, powertrains, hydraulic systems, and other components. The program ensures adherence to national certification standards. 

  • Program Meeting Times: Monday through Thursday, 7:30 am - 2:30 pm (with a one-hour lunch)

Admission Requirements:

Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of enrollment and have a valid driver’s license.

A grade of “C” or higher is required in each DET course to progress in the program and meet graduation requirements.

Minimum admissions requirements (in addition to general admissions requirements) must include one of the following:
  • Attain a 14 composite score on the ACT.
  • Score 230 or higher on the ACCUPLACER NG Reading Section and 230 or higher on the Accuplacer Algebra Section.
  • Earn a “C” or above in Math for Occupational Education (CTE 1113).
  • Complete 15 semester hours with a “C” average or above at an accredited college or university. Developmental coursework does not satisfy this requirement.  

In addition, applicants for the Commercial Truck Driving program are required to:

  • Pass a criminal background check and driver’s history that is obtained and evaluated by Meridain Community College.

 

NOTE: To progress from the Fall semester to the Spring semester in the Diesel Mechanic Technology program, students must fulfill the following additional requirements: 

  • Physical Examination: Provide documentation of a physical examination conducted before the start of the Spring semester.

  • Background Check: Undergo a background check as part of the admissions process for the Spring semester.

  • CDL Class B Permit: Obtain and submit documentation of a CDL Class B permit before the start of the Spring semester.
