Section 9: Workforce Solutions

In an effort to serve the community and businesses of Lauderdale County, MCC offers educational services designed to meet the needs of individuals and businesses alike. This section outlines policies of the Workforce Development Division and the programs offered through the division.

9.1 Meridian Workforce Council

The Workforce Education Act of 1994 created a workforce development council at each community college. The Meridian Workforce Council is composed of 15 community representatives. A majority of the members must by law be business and industry leaders and one must be involved in basic literacy training. The purpose of the Council is to identify workforce development needs in the community, recommend goals and objectives to meet those needs, and otherwise advise MCC regarding improvements or changes important to building a globally competitive workforce.
The Meridian Workforce Council is closely associated with MCC’s workforce development department and also serves as the advisory council for MCC’s workforce education programs.

Appointees serve one-year terms and are appointed by the MCC Board of Trustees. One member of the council is selected to represent the MCC District on the State Workforce Development Council. The state council makes recommendations regarding workforce development to the Governor, Legislature and other state and federal bodies.
